Sustainable Plant Water Management

It's evident that water management has been a significant challenge for DIL (presumably referring to a specific industrial plant or company) due to its location in Chandrapur, a drought-prone district in Maharashtra. However, the organization has successfully addressed this challenge through various water conservation measures. These measures have not only helped them ensure an adequate water supply for their operations but have also significantly reduced their water consumption and improved their environmental sustainability. Here's a summary of the key actions taken:

Creation of a Large Water Reservoir - DIL has proactively addressed the water scarcity issue by constructing a substantial water reservoir over 120 acres in addition to their existing storage capacity. This reservoir provides a crucial buffer against water shortages, especially during lean summer months.

Rainwater Harvesting - The plant has implemented rainwater harvesting to replenish the reservoir, making efficient use of local precipitation.

Construction of Bandhara (Barrage) - Building a barrage helps in controlling and regulating water flow, ensuring a stable water supply for their operations.

Effluent and Sewage Treatment - Continuous operation of Effluent Treatment Plant and Sewage Treatment Plant highlights the company's commitment to responsible water management by treating and reusing wastewater.

Ash Water Recovery - The continuous operation of the Ash Water Recovery System likely involves reclaiming water from ash disposal processes, reducing overall water usage.

Cooling Tower Blow Down Utilization - The use of cooling tower blowdown water for dust suppression is an efficient way to recycle water within the facility.

Recovery of Crusher Cooling Water - Reclaiming water from crusher cooling systems demonstrates a comprehensive approach to water recycling.

Maximizing Cooling Water Concentration - By optimizing the Cycle of Concentration (COC) of cooling water through effective water treatment, DIL reduces water waste and consumption in their cooling processes.

Water Audits - Conducting periodic water audits is crucial for identifying opportunities to save energy and enhance water efficiency.

Reduced Water Consumption - DIL's efforts have led to a significant reduction in specific water consumption, from 3.82m3/MWh to 2.2 m3/MWh, which is an impressive achievement.

These initiatives have not only made DIL more resilient to water scarcity but have also contributed to environmental sustainability by conserving a substantial amount of water. The reduction of 5,813,000m3 in annual water consumption is a remarkable accomplishment, equivalent to the water demand for six months at the current Plant Load Factor (PLF). This not only benefits DIL but also eases the burden on the local water supply in the drought-prone region of Chandrapur.
